Keep important files backed up and follow the device’s instructions about power, connectivity, and available storage. The setup screen is the right place to check those requirements.

Afterwards, try the essentials: a call, your everyday apps, and any accessibility settings you rely on. A small check now is more comfortable than discovering an unfamiliar setting during a rushed moment.

If a random web page says your phone urgently needs an update, close the page and navigate to the device’s official update settings yourself. Treat the message as something to verify, rather than a route you must follow.

The same habit applies to apps: use their established update path through the official store or the provider’s documented process.

This keeps a routine maintenance task connected to a source you chose. You do not have to decide whether an unexpected advertisement looks convincing enough.

Know how long your model is supported

When considering a phone, look up its software and security support policy for the exact model and region. The purchase price and camera are obvious comparison points; the support period deserves a place beside them.

For a device you already own, knowing that policy helps you plan. It is information for a considered decision, not a reason to replace a working phone every time something new launches.
